The code of ethics demonstrates our commitment to seniors and their families, requiring the expertise of our residence advisors. Retirement Homes Ontario advisors must submit to this code of ethics and recognize the right of seniors to be well informed in order to make informed decisions.
Our code of ethics
Integrity

Avoid any conflict of interest situation;
Demonstrate neutrality and impartiality in the selection of a private seniors' residence;
Avoid being accountable to anyone who could influence undue actions that go beyond the exercise of their duties;
Act with rigor, vigilance and kindness in each case handled.
The right to information

Ensure the accuracy and clarity of the information transmitted to the elderly person and their family about residences that may meet their needs;
Involve the elder's family in the decision-making process, if the elder consents;
Ensure the elder's full participation and consent to decisions that concern them, according to their abilities;
Answer questions from the senior, their family or their caregiver to ensure that they understand the steps being taken.
The respect

Treat the elderly person with courtesy, fairness and empathy while respecting their needs, values and abilities;
Avoid any pressure on the senior, their family or their caregiver in order to encourage them to make a hasty decision.
Confidentiality

Ensure the confidentiality of the elder's personal and medical information;
Obtain consent from the senior for the transmission of records to third parties if necessary to ensure that the senior receives all the services and care they require.
Social responsibility

Inform the competent authorities of any case of abuse or any unsafe situation that would endanger the safety of the elder.
